Fraudulent Sale
While reading today's paper I found the following article:

The article pretty much talks about how Villa Moda had a 50% off sale and that there was a huge crowd of willing shoppers! The thing that's funny and at the same time makes me mad at how ignorant some people are, is that Villa Moda never has a sale! When the bring a product into the Kuwaiti market they charge astronomical prices and when they say they are having a "SALE" they are still making money cause you can still get the exact same product from abroad for cheaper even with shipping and handling fees!

Say for example something is worth $300 in the US, what this place does is take the $ sign off and puts KD instead! Therefore a product that costs about KD90 is going for KD300!!! RIP OFF! Now that they are having a 50% off sale then the price of that product will still be KD150 which is still way over the line! Anyone can get the same product for cheaper! I realize that Villa Moda has to pay for it's employees and other expenses but why do they have to trick people into buying things by saying that it's on sale where in actuality they are finally charging the actual price!

I'm just venting here cause I just don't like the way people are being taken advantage of and they don't even realize it!

    S,

I wish I could say that Villa Moda was the only one charging over the outside cost but they are not. I have seen in numerous stores items that retail for less but here they are double the price. Or the itme will only be like .50 to 1.00 in the states but here start at 1kd. Like you said they must pay their employees and importing the item, but they don't have to make a killing off of us. On a funnier note, when I first arrived here I would go shopping and see items for 10kd and think "Wow, what a great price its only $10, hehe but do the conversion and oops that item that I so stupidly thought was 10kd is really like $30!! But I think here in Kuwait a lot of people seem to want the name brand items, and they don't maybe want to think that it's not worth the price they are paying for it. But it's not right for any store to jack the prices up, that means average people can't afford their goods, and as the consumer we lose out because other stores follow suit. By the way, great post, it has my blood pumping now for reform, let me go see what I can change in my work place. :o)

I bought a pair of shoes in America .. 325$; I bought the same style (different color) from Villa Moda yesterday .. 47KD.

They might be jacking prices up and then doing these sales, but at the end of the day; I got a pair of shoes for half of what I would have payed for them in any other store.

    ktheKuwaiti,

I am assuming though that this has to do with whatever sells here may not be a high seller in other areas, and vice verse. I know that style trends dictate the price of items, if its a hot selling item you can bet your last peso that you wil pay mucho dinero!

Anonymous: Lots of stores in Kuwait over price thier products and your comment is so true! I'm thinking that if people would find out the places to go in Kuwait where they sell the knock off goods then Villa Moda's market share will drop!

K: Hmmm seems like your case is quite different! The shoes you got have either been with Villa Moda for ages and they really want to get rid of it or you might have just gotten lucky!

    S,

Lead the way and I will follow as will most of your bloggers. But I first have to submit my list of items I want so we can hunt off of those requirements. :0) I also think that KTK found those shoes because they probably were an older model. Now KTK was that kd or dollars, hope you didn't make the same mistake that I use to make! :0) Stallion I still am looking for things to reform here ih the office, but everyone seems to be running away!

Anonymous: The only place I know that sells really good knock offs is close to the Mubarakia!

As for reform at your office, I don't think there is one office in Kuwait that doesn't need some form of reform! Something that will help might be a stick that is well known called the Khayzarana! It's a good thing to use as a means of intimidation! ;o)

    S,

What does this stick look like? I love the Mubarakia!!!!! I can spend all night there, then having dinner in one of the crowded little restuarants, please don't tell me any horror stories about it though because I love that place a lot! :0/

Anonymous: Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you any horror stories cause I like the place as well! As for the stick it looks like a thin bamboo cane! Keep in mind there are different types of sticks and some are worth buying while the rest are just for looks and are not worth using! When it comes to the food, that place has such a veriety of choices to choose from, sooo amazing! :o)

    S,

Pheww! I am glad to hear that it is still safe to eat there and shop. The call of the vendor that must be featured on National Geographic, "Rubaa rubaa, mia mia" it is almost hypnotic like. I will go buy one of those sticks to chase the people around the office with, hehe see if anyone steals my stapler again! Hmmm maybe I have seen you there before, do you go during the day or night?

Anonymous: I haven't been there since August! I went there prior to leaving Kuwait and going to the US for a 3 week vacation that I took in September! I think it's time for me to go back! As for the stick, good luck finding a good one! If you want you can test it on the sales person but I won't recomend that!

"And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire..." S,

Wont set the building on fire, just maybe lock all the doors with everyone inside and leave them there over night. You go me in a Mubarakia mood, at least there I wont be ripped off. I hope that today has been a little better for you, it's almost the weekend so you need to get in a festive mood. Happy Holidays to you, I hope you were not naughty this year so that way Santa Claus will give you lots of gifts and not coal or a bamboo stick!

As for being in a Festive Mood, well I am! I just came from from OPERATION HOPE and I'm feeling really good about myself!

    S,

Don't say that you deserve to be single because of something you did. So please don't be hard on yourself, there will be people in life who will try to do that for you! And you still have a little time before the new year to find a honey, put mistletoe around your desk, then pucker up! You need to give out a lil honey in order to get the bees to come. Bzzzzzz

Ripp off is the way to go nowadays. Everybody seem to think that nice people finish last so ....
Anyway you are right. When it comes to foreign products it's always like that. Even here in the US when I try to get stuff from outside the country they are at least 500% or more the regular price.
So I guess it comes down to how bad you want the items. And how much are you willing to pay for the convenience.
